Canyon Light

Light makes its way into Lower Antelope Canyon, revealing textures and lines of the natural formations. Contrasting hues draw attention into the frame.

I found this formation at the lower entrance of the canyon. The tripod was pressed against the stair rail, and I was precariously gripping the camera and stairs. A lower, and less awkward position would not reveal light on the edge of the portal element, which I think adds important interest and confirms a direct source of sunlight at the other side of the red rock. This side of the rock is illuminated by the red light reflected from the canyon walls, so there is a difference in hue because of different light sources. For the print, color balance was adjusted for the foreground rock, with further emphasis on the difference in hue to convey what the view feels like.
