Marble Canyon

As I recall, this canyon is about twenty miles northeast of Stovepipe Wells on rugged gravel "road" (cough). I had to carry the camera gear only a few miles for this, because we had a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get us into the area. The sky was boring with a white, high cloud layer, but that made the hiking more comfortable and the contrast more manageable.

This photograph won an award at the annual Santa Maria Autumn Arts Festival, which features two-dimensional works of all media. "If it looks good, it is good," and that's how winners are determined. Instead of first, second, or third, they simply acknowledged "Award Winners." This photo is one of my favorites, but you never know how these things are going to go. Maybe they liked the hat.
