The visual weight is at the structure of pier and ladder. The dominant element, however, is the blue boat surrounded by—and alone in—the green water. The literal relationship of boat and pier is singular, and visually the image is simple and appealing in composition and color.
Metaphorically, the image offers additional possibilities for consideration. Like a poem or good music, it is open enough and loose enough to be appended with what each viewer brings to the photograph. What if someone doesn't bring anything to a photograph? In that case, the obvious visual offering must suffice. I suspect that such people may have spent too much time making a living and not enough time making a life. The latter is very important.
