I've always enjoyed nature, so picking up a camera seemed like a natural progression. With the camera I'm invited to slow down and take a closer look at the world. Photography can't capture all of nature, for instance the sounds of the Sandhill Crane with it's numerous vocalizations, or the thunderous sounds of ice falling from a waterfall as the first rays of light warm the air. However, a photograph can convey an emotion felt by its creator. By extracting part of a scene you can capture a feeling or a mood that will evoke an emotional response that equals the experience. With my photography I strive to do just that.

Whether a photographer practices photo journalism, sport photography or specializes in portraits, I believe we all share a passion that we would like to come across in our work. As an active member of the SMCC, I enjoy camaraderie with like photographers and have benefited much from their wisdom and friendship. After shooting almost exclusively with color transparency film, I made the switch to digital in 2005. I plan to still hang onto the film cameras as I think they still are preferred in certain situations. However, I have to admit that I'm using film less and less.
