She looks confident and self-assured, and she performed well. There were several musicians her age, and younger, who startled me with their ability. The only thing I can play well is a CD...

She glows against the dark, simple, background of the stage. This is the sort of situation and light that I look for. It was, in fact, rather dark, but the tripod steadied the camera (probably about 1/25 second with short telephoto lens). The diffused light illuminates her evenly, and the film captures the highlights and tones that are not so obvious to our eyes in the low light.
